Mint is one of my favorite flavors. I love mint Ice cream, and mint gum and mint anything really~! So when I decided to make a mint dress I thought I might as well make it with all the elements I love in dresses.

It's a super soft cotton velvet with long full sleeves, a dropped waist, pleated skirt, and a lace yoke collar. haha It's not to much is it?

I really love the luster this fabric has and yet in person it's not shiny at all and just reads as a really beautiful rich green. I think deep rich colors like this are gorgeous with lolita styles. The color and the fabric make it seem so luxurious!

I hope you guys like it~! I also added a few of the items form the show to the etsy shop! I'm sorry I'm being so slow with everything.

For my Sweets: REDxGOLD

Red and gold is possibly my favorite color combination. It's elegant, vibrant and it can read as something military in a flashy 18th century sort of way.

Can you guess what sort of sweet she is? A Napoleon! I know it doesn't really look like a napoleon at all but I really love making things with a military style. And I just had to do something with this fantastic gold brocade. Under the jacket the dress has a very low scoop neck that is just perfect for setting off your favorite blouse.

The blouse is one of my favorites. The ruffle at the neck frames the face is such a delicate way, and the ruffles cuffs make hands look so dainty! I like the very feminine blouse with the more severe dress and jacket too.

The Jacket is a very fine 100% wool twill and is lined with silk. My obsession with peplums is showing again here. I love those elegant 18th century riding suits. I was hoping to bring something like that to mind with this outfit.

The next piece from the show I'd like to share is another of the first ones I made. The theme for this outfit was a lavender petit four. I just adore those dainty little tea cakes!

This look started out as something that was supposed to look very regency. . and without the jacket and the bonnet I think it does! Sadly I forgot to get pictures of just the dress! With the brocade jacet and bonnet I think the look moves more into an 1830s-ish style. I know a lot of people find that decade rather unfortunate for women's clothing but I find it so charming!

The model is Victoria of Parfait Doll! She's such a sweetheart to model for me again. I really think the lavender floral pattern in the jacket and the bonnet suits her. I really love working with heavy fabrics like brocades, so jackets and winter weight dresses are some of my favorite things to make.

This was my first time making a buckram base bonnet instead of a straw summer bonnet. This one didn't come out exactly as I wanted it to. I may still add more lace and a ruffle around the face, but all in all it came out petty well for my first try.

The back of the jacket has a split peplum. I'm a big fan of peplums on jackets worn with lolita. I think it adds that little bit of extra femininity without going to far over the top. The lace used on the hem (and sleeves and collar) of the dress is a fantastic vintage lace I found. I wish I'd bought all of it when I found it! I split what I had between this dress and a commission I was working on at the same time. It looks like stylized leaves. It's so perfect for romantic looks.

For my Sweets: CINNAMONxSUGAR

Hi everyone, I hope you all had great holidays. I was fortunate enough to get to visit my family in Florida. It put me in the summer state of mind and got me thinking about what to make for the summer collection!

Anyway, here is the next piece from the winter collection. This one is light and fluffy! The dress is made of a very fine shear netting with the most gorgeous embroidery. The roundness of the embroidery at the hem made me think of cinnamon rolls. I decided to run with it and give the model cinnamon roll hair as well.

The yoke, collar and sleeves are all sheer. I kind of like the peek-a-boo effect while keeping it still completely modest.

This is one of the first pieces I made for this collection, as you might be able to tell one of the original inspirations was the regency period. Of course as I was working on other pieces I couldn't keep the rococo from creeping in!

p.s.: What would you like to see in summer? I thought it might be fun to make some really light floaty shirt-dresses.

I have so many lovely photos from this most recent show I couldn't possibly narrow it down to one picture of each, so I've decided to break it down to a post about each look. I'm also trying to keep the IDD blog more active! No more 6 month breaks!

OK! No more excuses, here are the goods! One of my favorite looks from the line: the BLACKxWHITE rococo gown. Now I know I told you that all of the girls in this line would be sweets.. . and this is no exception! This dress was made to bring to mind black and white cookies. I know they aren't something lolitas normally think about as being cute, but they are just so delicious!

The model has on a very light pair of 18th century stays underneath the gown to give it that rigid shape. I love how neat 18th c. foundation garments make everything look!
The back of the dress is cut partially on the bias. I love making striped dresses like this so I can create those gorgeous chevrons down the back of the dress!

The stomacher is reinforced with a very stiff facing and is trimmed with black and white striped ribbons.

The neckline and sleeves are trimmed with a black dot-tulle that;s all hand ruffled. The sleeves are also trimmed with the most gorgeous frothy white lace. I think that really give it that 18th c. feel! The black skirt is separate so the dress can be worn with different skirts! It might look really stunning over a white skirt!
I hope you all love this dress as much as I do~!

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my recent absence. I've been running around in circles over non IDD things. But to make up for it I'm bringing you an all new collection! The inspiration behind these all new pieces is sweets! I know all lolitas love sweet things (or at least all the lolitas I know) so I thought it would be fun to try to bring some of my favorite sweets to life! Cinnamon rolls, red velvet cake, black and white cookies, petit fours and layer cakes! I hope all of you will like them.

The new collection will be making it's debut at the upcoming Dances of Vice event: Pure Imagination.

There are going to be some fantastic acts so I hope you'll come see the show!

Hi everyone~!

The time for Otakon is fast approaching and although the schedule for events has not been posted yet I thought it would be fun to let you know what I Do Declare will be doing at the convention~!

Friday is the lolita tea party at The Explorers Lounge~! It's sponsored by Morrigan NYC, Perianth, Moss Garden, Tea, Love and Crochet and I Do Declare. It's a very elegant place and I can't wait to enjoy it's opulence with some fellow lolitas. I Do declare will be contributing to the gift bags! One for every attendee~! I'm also working on a super secret raffel prize~! I hope everyone got their tickets already because all the spots are sold out.

I Do Declare will also be featured in the Lolita Fashion show. Sadly we don't have a time or day for it yet but I just know it's going to be fantastic. This year IDD is showing alongside some of the most talented people I know: Morrigan NYC, Lily of the Valley, Little Macaroon, Corazon Carmela, Perianth, Candy Threads, Lolita Nouveau, and one other~! I'll be posting the date and time as soon as I know it.

I'll also have an I Do Declare booth in the Artists Alley with Morrigan NYC~! I hope you'll all stop by to say hello~! I'll be selling little things (t-shirts, tote bags and accessories) along with a few lolita pieces.

Summer Collection: Pastoralism

Hey everybody! I hope you're enjoying the summer as much as I have been so far. I know I always work so much better when it's baking hot. Maybe it's because I lived in Florida for so long. . .

Anyway I'd like to introduce you to The I Do Declare summer 2011 collection! This collection is inspired by the general theme of pastoralism. Even though I live in a city it's wonderful to dream of afternoon picnics in the countryside. That's what I'm hoping to evoke with these summer pieces.

My model promptly dubbed it an 'ice-cream dress' because the colors remind her so much of her favorite ice-cream flavors!The model is 5'1"

Hi everyone~! I realized I haven't updated in ages! Never fear though, despite my absence I have not been idle!

Project #1

A cute dress for the casual 18th century gal. I started working on this dress with Marie Antoinette in mind. . . though it seems some more modern influences have jumped in. Most notably Martha of Moss Garden's natural style. Just a quick teaser pic for now~

Is everything I love encompassed in this fabric? The answer: pretty much! Sadly I only had two yards of this lovely vintage brocade to work with so I had to forgo all off the frills and embellishments I'd been dreaming of in favor of a more simple, almost retro style.

Dances of Vice: Secret Life of Toys PHOTOS!

So remember the show I posted about last time? IT WENT PERFECTLY! The models were wonderful, The girls doing hair and makeup were fantastic and the venue was (as all DOVs are) spectacular!

And now to share photos of the wonderful event!
Yanise (of BakaNekoYani) opened the show wearing my favorite white Op and bonnet. She looks so inanimate just like a living doll. It was just the way I'd imagined it!

Dalin of La Vida Frills wears a bittersweet outfit with a velvet bodice and the skirt made of my favorite pink and mint green striped fabric. I'm always looking for an excuse to make something from this! The blouse is a pattern I've just finished perfecting. Expect to see more! I love the giant bow at the neck.

Rei is wearing one of my favorite rococo styles with a slightly lower waist and a saque back. She looked so elegant!

Victoria of Lolita Charm modeled a new rococo look that was featured in Dalin's thesis film, La Fille De L'avenir (The Daughter of the Future)! You can check out La Vida Frills for more info. I'm so excited for the release!

Kelly wore a new dress inspired by Bunka Dolls. This length is fast becoming my favorite in the winter! I was so facinated by the dolls that I made a miniature one that Kelly has in her hair.

Bianca of Curly B modeled the long sleeve version of my favorite OP in black. She did makeup for half of he girls alongside my friend Claudia. She did a spectacular job! Her makeup in her Halloween post insipred the makeup looks for the show!

Zoh of Morrigan NYC wore a new button down coat/dress. She has on little prince pants underneath! She looked so good on the runway! Morrigan has just realesed a spiffy new line inspired by Herman Melville's epic masterwork Moby Dick!

The Chess JSK styled a little differently. Poor Sylvia got thrown onto the runway when one of my models couldn't make it. She did so well! She also did many of the girls hairstyles!

Jean is wearing a new drop waisted OP with long sleeves for winter with a matching tri-corn and a vintage stole (it was my great grandmothers)

The Green Knight dress. The way Koda wears it is kind of 1960's royalty don't you think?

The War of the Roses dress makes another showing. I thought it suited the toyland theme well.

Martha of Moss Garden in a military look with a striped blouse and another matching tri-corn. I'm in love with stripes right now.

Never Ending Closet show! And a Giveaway~!

I'm back form vacation and my sick bed (bad cold) and I'm happy to share some shots of the outfits from the Never-ending Closet show at New York Comic Con!

The Knight Print on this JSK was the inspiration for a whole medieval themed pocket collection! Modeled by the stunning Bianca of Curly B!

The skirt on this JSK is made of sixteen alternating panels of red and blue with Tudor roses, unicorns and fleur de lis! All are hand printed. Modeled by Lindsay of Lolitas N' Cream.

Chess print jsk. This one is a one of! I can't make any more because it's made from this fantastic vintage fabric I found! Modeled by The amazing Laura (who I idolize)

This OP was meant to mimic armor. It is made of a very stiff herring bone fabric. The Fleur de Lis is hand printed. Modeled by Angelica! She has the most fabulous hair!

And the finale look! I really love strapless dresses with lolita. . .I know it doesn't really follow any of the rules but it's so attractive! This dress has a split in the front and the under-layer is hand printed with Tudor roses! I really love the layered five petaled rose as a motif. Modeled by Jean.

I hope you guys liked the little pocket collection~! I'm getting back on my normal rococo track for the next few pieces. Most of these will be listed on my etsy within the next week!

Hey there everyone! Wow we have are almost 100 followers now! Perhaps a giveaway is in order . . . . XD

In other news I Do Declare has been selected to be part of the New York Anime Festival Lolita fashion show The Never Ending Closet! I'm really excited about the collection for this show as it draws a lot of inspiration from medeival/tudor heraldry. I hope to be able to share a little sneak peek with you guys before I go out of town.

A few of my favorite pieces all together as an outfit! The Unicorn skirt is something you can commission me to make as is the blouse!This is the female version of the Cheshire cat outfit from Dances of Vice! Possibly one of my favorites!

You have all seen this dress before! But now it's accompanied by a straw bonnet.

This was a mixing of a few looks from the Dances of Vice show! I like how it came out.

Otakon went fantasticly~! Thank you so much to everyone who came to see the Lolita fashion show! I think despite a few problems it went really well! I don't have any good pictures from the show yet but here are a few of my outfits (head to ankle IDD)
Thursday was a super casual day: My favorite hat and unicorn skirt and an old mens shirt that I chopped apart and turned into my new favorite button down
Friday was the fashion show ( pic impending) and i didn't get a shot of my outfit

Saturday was pirate day for me~! So I wore my new Rococo gown bustled up over an IDD underskirt topped off with as many pearls as I could fit around my neck.

Saturday night I wandered around in manly pirate attire (this is a look from the IDD fashion show~!)

And Sunday I decided to do a little twist on sailor lolita and make it 1770's Naval lolita~! Pirates beware~! Once again it's all IDD items except for my shoes~!

Thanks again to everyone involved in the show and everyone who came to see it~!

Happy Loli day everyone! I wanted to remind anyone in the NYC area again that I'll be doing a panel with Zoh of Morigan NYC today at the Kinokuniya bookstore on 6th ave between 40th and 41st streets!

Hey everyone! I'm happy to introduce a new pattern to I Do Declare! What do you think? I wanted to make something really light and easy for people to wear in summer.. . so often lolita is a real pain when it gets hot outside. It's made out of and lined with a very light cotton lawn. It may become my signature fabric this season beacause of how breezy it is!

A collar detail shot. I'm falling back in love with pintucks! And Snazzy buttons. . . and really soft grosgrain ribbon.
And here it is in action! This dress will be available in a few different prints on my etsy within a few days! It's also available for commission(though message on etsy) in the fabric of your choice! Sadly right now I can only make it in two sizes (bust: 35 waist: 28 and bust: 37 waist: 30) I'm working on drafting patterns for larger sizes though!

Hey everyone! and hello to anyone new reading today~! Thanks for stopping by to say hello at NYAF this weekend! I hope you all had fun!

I figured I'd share my picture of my outfits for the fashion show on Sunday!

The good news about some of them is that items like them(and some of the items from my booth like the tote bags and t-shirts) will be available for purchase on my Etsy shop: IxDoxDeclare.

Blouses like the ones my models are wearing here will be for sale at teh etsy shop shortly!
As will tailcoats like the one in the second picture.

These two are a very soft cotton velvet. And the second picture is another veiw of the same blouse style.

The lovely Victoria from Lolita Charm in pink! And me. . . spazzing out. But at least you can see the Heraldry skirt on a person now!

The Heraldry Skirt

I finished the sample skirt yesterday!

I really couldn't be happier with it! (except that I need grey thread instead of black XD)

I made the waistband a little wider and reinforced it with a double layer of interfacing so it's won't do that annoying fold over thing that most lolita skirt seem to do. It has an invisible side zip and it's lined. It's also very full, the hem circumfrnence is over 9 feet!

Fabric!

haha Same title as last time.

Anyway, my fabric came! I wanted to hold off posting about this until I took a decent picture of it, but I've decided to just go ahead!
I had four yards of my custom heraldry print fabric made and I couldn't be happier! It's printed on 100% organic cotton sateen so it's just the right weight for a lolita skirt. The details in the design came out so wonderfully but next time I think i may have it printed just a tad larger so it's easier to see.

I've started making a sample skirt, so if all goes well you'll see not only pictures of the fabric tomorrow but pictures of the first skirt~!

In other news anyone in the NYC area please come see me at New York Anime Festival! I'll have a table in the artists alley where you'll be able to see the first Heraldry skirt and pre-order one of your own! I'll be doing custom sizes to start with though because of the way it's printed I'll only be able to make skirts with waist sizes up to 30" and 22" long.

Fabric!

So I've been working on a new print to debut I do Declare with at New York Anime Fesival. about a week and a half ago I ordered a test swatch from Spoonflower. I got my swatch from Spoonflower in the mail today! I have to say I'm really quite pleased with the result. Although the black ground of the design prints as a dark charcoal gray I really quite like it that way! It softens the print little I think. The fabric quality is very nice. the cotton sateen suits the print nicely and it's not to heavy a weight. The details in the design come out very sharply in the print.

Well, it took me long enough to set this up, but this will be the spot for updates and notifications about the I do Declare lolita clothing line! I hope to use this to keep everyone updated on the projects I'm working on for I do Declare!
